San Diegans Cross the ACLU

Posted on July 28, 2005

This week we’re having a “free for all” blogburst, and I’d like to share a small victory for the side of RIGHT today…although The MaryHunter beat me to the punch yesterday right here, in my own backyard!

The ACLU lost this one, or so it appears. The only problem I have with this is–this is now on government property.

As you could see in this piece, a government which has lost God can easily change its mind and decide to get rid of the cross….I see a trend here…not only here in the US, but in Europe as well…against Christianity, and it’s a frightening thing to me. Are we doomed to lose the right to wear a cross around our neck as a token of our faith? A statue of Jesus on the dashboard? A bible in public?

San Diegans vote to save cross
75% resist ACLU effort to remove historic structure

After 15 years of adverse court rulings, the citizens of San Diego voted to save the city’s historic Mt. Soledad cross.

The conflict arises from an ACLU lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the 29-foot concrete structure, which has been the center of a war memorial on city land since 1954.

According to an unofficial count, 75 percent of voters decided they want to transfer the city owned site to the federal government where it would be designated as a war memorial.

The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm, provided legal analysis that formed the basis for a federal law that declared the cross and memorial as a National War Memorial and authorized the federal government to receive a donation of the land.

A bill authorizing the federal government to take over the memorial was authored by Republican U.S. congressmen Duncan Hunter and Randy Cunningham. President Bush signed the bill into law in December.

The ballot initiative came about after the city refused to donate the cross and memorial to the federal government. A group called San Diegans for the Mount Soledad National War Memorial took just 23 days to gather 105,000 signatures.

“This is a tremendous victory in an important battle, but the war is not over,” said Richard Thompson, the center’s president and chief counsel. “The other side has not surrendered; court battles over the cross continue.”

This kind of battle is being waged against us Christians and our age-old heritage by the ACLU across the country. On such issues as the boy scouts on military bases (which they also recently lost), the tiny little cross on the Los Angeles seal, the right to say a prayer before a ball game, and so on…we are being attacked from all sides.

Join us in fighting the horrible anti-Christian agenda of the ACLU which also includes taking “Christ” out of Christmas.

Personally, I don’t see any problem with this.
Even though it is now Government owned and has a Cross on it, so does many other Memorials including Arlington (which in my opinion is the trump card).
Kudos to those who voted for it!

Better tell your buddy over at Caos blog to immediatly pull down that photo of Kerry. He wont be able to assist you in your aclu stopping ventures from prison.

And tell him to honor free speech!

You know what? On second thought. Why don’t you bring your crap over here. I don’t fear creeps like you.

Hey, I’m just honestly trying to give the guy an ounce of common sense. He blocked me from posting fine. But he should be careful and use better common sense. He thinks kerry is a turd. fine. I get it. but……

To post a photo of a Senior US Senator with a gun to his head is retarded. Someone is going to report his ass to the FBI, and I doubt that they will care about his “artistic expression”

That photo is a threat and he should remove it before it get’s him in serious trouble.

And For you I would disassociate myself with him.

Well after such enlightened wisdom, my little comment will seem mundane…

But what the heck, YEAH for the Mount Soledad supporters!

Hey moron. Yeah the one who thinks that he has the right to give advice. There is nothing about that picture that can be construed as libel. If you doubt me, ask Jerry Fallwell about his experience with Larry Flint and Hustler magazine.

So, do yourself a big favor, crawl back under your rock. Because your poison is not welcome here.

  10. Rob on July 28th, 2005 11:11 pm

Well, I’m not going to report her I could care less about her ignorant post. But for the record, I pretty sure that is a crime. And I am honestly just trying to give some friendly advice. Just because I disagree with your politics doesnt mean I wish you ill

ROB, get a clue, it not a threat, it’s free speech. You don’t have the cahones to take Cao or us on, so go climb back under the rock from whence you came, and leave people alone. We have the right to free speech, and you have the right not to look or listen, so please, evoke that right and do so. We will promptly return the favor.

I dont think it is libel. The tone of the language on that blog combined with that photo is tantamount to a threat on Senator Kerry. I dont agree with the president but I would NEVER go to that extreme. It is reckless dangerous and against the law. If you don think so post your full name and support of the photo on caos blog and wait for the FBI to come knockin!

  13. Zaphriel on July 28th, 2005 11:27 pm

Your a knot head Rob, go away. Thanks for the “warning” but I am quite sure we can handle our own.

  14. Rob on July 28th, 2005 11:30 pm

You now what, you all are to stupid and potentially dangerous. I in good conscience can not ignore this. I have sent an email to the fbi as well as to Senator Kerrys office. We will see how he percieves your Free Speech.

  15. Zaphriel on July 28th, 2005 11:37 pm

OH but I thought you weren’t going to report us, I quote…”Well, I’m not going to report her I could care less about her ignorant post.”typical liberal double speek…as you can see we are shaking in our boots.

  16. Jay on July 29th, 2005 12:15 am

LOL! I’m sure the FBI already knows about me! Give them my regards on collecting all those files on the ACLU!

re: “the right to say a prayer before a ball game”

There is no constitutional right to force a captive audience to listen to your religion’s prayer in a public space.

What we do here in Texas is have a moment of silence before the game. The other thing you could legally do is what Congress and the Texas Legislature do, which is invite religious leaders of every religion to open with prayer on a rotating basis. Since us rednecks don’t wanna listen to prayers to Osama’s god at our American football games, we do the moment of silence and it works just fine.

What does piss me off is the whole San Diego aquatics center thing with the Boy Scouts. The proper people to sue was the City of San Diego for not having an open bidding process for the property. BSA didn’t do a damn thing wrong. BSA’s anti-gay policy is wrong, IMO, but that doesn’t mean they need to be hassled at every legal corner. I mean, hell, would the ACLU sue the local VFW for running the Aquatics center since they discriminate against people who aren’t veterans of foreign wars? Come on…
