ACLU Decides Which Churches May Support A Candidate
Posted on July 25, 2005
So I guess the ACLU will be filing suit to remove tax exempt staus from those black churches that blatantly came out in support of John Kerry. I’m sure that will almost happen.
Once again, there is evidence of the bias exhibited by the supposedly impartial civil liberties advocates. They pursue and run to the ground those they want to persecute but select and chosen groups are allowed to roam free from harassment.
The following is from an ACLU conference in Alabama.
The relationship between religion and government is fraught with tension, and working out a palatable marriage will not be quick or easy, a panel of lawyers and a congressman said during the final day of the American Civil Liberties Union’s biennial conference here Saturday.Jeremy Gunn, the director of the ACLU’s Freedom of Religion and Belief program, cautioned against adopting the European model of giving government aid to religions.
He said political conservatives want to change U.S. laws so they are more like laws in European countries such as France where, for example, Catholic schools are subsidized by the government. The panel also questioned whether a law allowing the endorsement of political candidates from church pulpits could stand if the church is allowed to keep its nonprofit status.
“Religious leaders need to speak out on moral issues,” said U.S. Rep. Robert Scott, D-Va.
He said a church wanting to support a political candidate should have to choose between political advocacy and tax-exempt status.

I will post even more revealing stuff about this later in the week. This is only on the surface, where they talk about pulpit politics. Not only will they not go after the churches where democrats are doing this, but they will advocate tax breaks for other religions like the Wiccans without ever prying into their political activism.
Well, of course the black liberal churches are going to be exempt, the ACLU won’t file suit against them.
The hypocrisy at the ACLU makes me sick.
I second that. Much like our new moonbat, Brad, from Sad Parade.
Just a note to let everyone know that the ACLU lost a case here against the City of Colorado Springs. The ACLU filed a suit against the city because the police department keep a bunch of moonbats from disrupting a NATO meeting, claiming that they violated their constitutional rights to free assembly, never thinking that this was noting but a bunch of idiots (criminals) that was trying ti violate the constitional rights of the NATO converence by disrupting their rights to free assembly. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE the idiot lawyers will not get any money for this law suit.
instead of noting the word should be nothing. I hit say it without proof reading. Sorry.
Thanks for the good news Dethanial.
Tax exempt status for Churches, Temples, and Mosques is one thing. As for schools, the better model is to give the people vouchers for whatever school they want to send their kids to. They can still be held to academic standards, though that is somewhat of a joke these days.
Then there’s the example of religious medical institutions. They receive plenty of federal money, and I haven’t seen the ACLU opposing them (yet). I hope I’m not giving them any ideas.
I’ve been commenting on several of the STOP blogs about these things, and I feel a good post generating in my mind for the NY blog soon.
I also want to express my appreciation for Jay, RV, and all of the other STOP bloggers, and for the opportunity to join this community. As we grow (and I’m sure we will), I see the potential of perhaps not shutting the ACLU down altogether, but to provide a HUGE counter-force to their dangerous agenda. When I talk to my “average NYer” friends about this, none of them agree with the things that the ACLU defends. They just don’t know about it, because they don’t pay attention. If our voice gets loud enough, and we get bloggers in every State, we will cause the changes in the politics and culture that we all know are sorely needed. Thanks for letting me part of this.
Very nice blog.
