I have to ask, though: didn't anyone involved with the Minutemen (picture them up against the British and, once the laughter's stopped, read on) stop to think about the immediate jokes that spring to mind? Immigration is, as always, a strength of our nation and not a weakness. Despite the fears, those who come here from Latin America follow the same route as far as language and assimilation that previous immigrants have shown and our language and our culture is to be enriched by that and not somehow snatched from us. Our borders, especially with all those with whom we share North America, should be open rather than closed. Heck, we took half their country 150 years ago, so allowing easier access to Mexican immigration satisfies both history and God's immaculately ironic sense of humor. Get a grip and get over being frightened by imaginary threats. Be frightened of the real threat, now residing until January 2009 at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Remember, pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. We've shown how terribly beset we are by both since 2001.
