[...] Indeed, quite unethical and very hypocritical for such an esteemed organization. The FBI have their concerns over the ACLU. Between the shady business of their funding issues, helping America’s enemies, spying on their own members, and FBI concerns; there is no wonder why had their document shredding going on. The American Civil Liberties Union has been shredding some documents over the repeated objections of its records manager and in conflict with its longstanding policies on the preservation and disposal of records.
[...] Mr. Romero tries to dismiss the criticism as the work of two people, Mr. Meyers and Wendy Kaminer who have said that he has witheld vital information from the board, and made ill-advised, unilateral decisions that have embarrassed the organization. However, more people are emerging with criticism. In interviews, six more board members generally echoed Mr. Meyers’s and Ms. Kaminer’s concerns, and eight others have posted e-mail messages that agree with much of their criticism, though they did not consent to interviews. (Board members have been asked to refer all news media calls to the A.C.L.U.’s public relations managers.) Three more board members who resigned in the last year said they did so because of concerns about Mr. Romero’s leadership, and one member who expressed concerns was voted off the board last fall. He has also criticized the coverage in The New York Times. After one article recounted complaints by the group’s former archivist about the use of shredders, he invited the staff to a “shred-in” and suggested they bring copies of that article and others to run through his own shredder. He later apologized to the reporter. [...]

[...] But I think the main criticism of the columnist is in her response to the FBI having papers on liberal activist groups including 1,173 pages related to the ACLU and 2,383 pages about Greenpeace. Well there are plenty of reasons such groups should be investigated. What ever happened with that whole document shredding fiasco at the ACLU? Or we could start with their history of defending terrorists, and America’s enemies. Or how about their refusal not to use donations directly or indirectly to engage in, promote, or support other organizations or individuals who engage in or promote terrorist activity.Still not enough for an investigation? How about their direct involvement to organizations with known terrorist ties. Still not enough for an investigation? I think thats enough probably cause for one day, but theres more where that came from.
